What diseases can be prevented through dental checkup

Dental checkup allows the specialist to identify problems present in the oral cavity that, if neglected, can progress and lead to serious risks for the teeth and the entire mouth.

The most serious condition that, often, initially comes asymptomatically and latently is periodontitis, an inflammatory disease that, if not treated in time, can cause tooth loss.

One of the primary aspects that are related to this pathology concerns the presence of plaque and tartar on the inside of the gum; these two components promote the proliferation of bacteria in the gum pockets, going to significantly affect the tooth bone.

To keep this disorder under strict control, it is necessary for the patient to undergo professional tooth cleaning, and more specifically tartar ablation sessions or gingival curettage, as well as root polishing; all these procedures ensure the removal of the bacteria responsible for periodontitis.

Another common finding during a dental checkup is caries. Initially, they appear in a mild and superficial form. Through a filling, the specialist can restore the affected part of the enamel, sealing it and ensuring complete healing. If caries is left untreated, it can reach the pulp, the vital core of the tooth. In such cases, the only possible course of action is devitalization, which allows the tooth to be preserved structurally but results in the loss of its vitality.
